Product Details

It’s 1963. Khrushchev is being driven around Moscow in his ZIL limo one dark winter’s night. His chauffeur, distracted by one of Khruschev's jokes about Kennedy, almost runs over a cyclist returning home from a day at the office. The near-miss inspired the  Secretary. The following day, he demanded a bicycle tail light that used the least amount of strategic materials possible. From these humble beginnings, the Schmidt fender tail light was born*. Barely a light at all, but insanely bright nonetheless. This tiny light bolts to most rear racks, and with some finangling, to certain saddles and bike frames. We leave the Macgyver-ing to you, but know that this little light is tough, bright, simple and functional. No reflector, so make sure you strap an aluminum Xmas tree to your rear rack in case the wiring fails (it won’t). Perfect for your stainless single speed town bike, or your ultra light rando touring whip, or your Kharkov XB3.

*None of this happened and the light is made in Germany, it just looks like mid century Soviet design.

The light comes with thick coaxial cable. That makes the wire more durable. It also makes it bigger, but that’s a small trade off.  Wire length is 190cm.  Some of these have clear lenses. Rest assured, the light itself is red.

These lights come with everything you need to install them to a Schmidt headlight including directions.

Mounting to a Sinewave Beacon?  Easiest thing to do is add two 2.8mm male crimps to the end of the coaxial wire, along with 3/16th heat shrink tubing, and some 1/8th inch heat shrink, then add two female 2.8 connectors to the Beacon's tail light leads.  Put 3/16th heat shrink tubing over those.  Then you can unplug the light if needed.  Here's a bad diagram!
